Automated Optical Inspection for SMD Components

An automated machine vision system designed to inspect SMD components for pin defects, discoloration, contamination, dimensional variation, and other appearance-related issues.

Application Challenge

Small SMD components require reliable inspection of pins, contours, surfaces, and orientation. Manual inspection is difficult to standardize and may become inefficient when multiple defect types must be identified and classified.

Our Solution

This automated inspection system integrates component feeding, positioning, machine vision inspection, result classification, and downstream handling in one production cell. Multiple imaging stations inspect different features of each component before qualified parts proceed to the next process.

Inspection Capabilities

  • Pin presence, position, and alignment
  • Surface contamination
  • Yellowing and discoloration
  • Dimensional and contour inspection
  • Missing or damaged features
  • Component orientation
  • Multi-angle appearance inspection
  • Automatic OK/NG sorting
  • Defect category statistics

Process

Automatic feeding → component positioning → multi-station image acquisition → defect analysis → OK/NG sorting → qualified parts transferred to the next process/NG parts go to NG box.

Outcome

The system provides a fully automated inspection workflow, consistent inspection criteria, clear defect classification, and traceable production statistics.
